Ulaantaij - Bringing Mongolia to the World
A herders yurt. So called because nomads will sometimes travel away from their main encampment,
taking with them small portable yurts. This design of yurt is perfect for summer camping, visiting festivals
or for a children's play yurt.
We have listed below the main features of our herders yurt and how it differs from our more traditional
yurts. Please bear in mid that in order to keep costs low the list of options is fixed.
Please Note: Due to high demand there is limited availability of this yurt.

Herders Yurt - A yurt for everyone!

Used in Mongolia now, just as
in the times of Genghis Khan.
Well here it is, the bare
bones of our herders yurt.
This yurt is available in

The second thing you may
notice is our crown wheel.
A type of wheel that is
often (mistakenly)
associated with Central
Asia. This design of crown
wheel is much smaller
and lighter than our
normal offering, making it
easy to move around and
carry.
The roof poles are made
from coppiced timber and
as such have a natural
non-uniform shape.
The third difference is - No crown supports, this
allows for a large, usable, child friendly play and
sleeping area.
This is not a typical design for our yurts. All our
other yurts are designed to be used to crown
supports. Giving you a yurt that is stable in high
winds and capable of taking a great deal of weight
on it's roof. i.e. snow. For this reason we do not
recommend a herders yurt for year round living.
Our crown cover has a large single piece of PVC
inserted into it. This allows light into the yurt whilst
keeping rain out. This design of crown and crown
cover has not been designed to accept a stove flue.

The final difference is in the layers that cover
our yurt. They are, from inside to out
(1) Felt insulating layer covering roof & walls
(2) Heavyweight canvas cover for roof & walls
(3) White 12oz canvas sun cover with blue trim
around the door.
Note: This yurt is designed as a summer use
yurt and not for year round living or
accommodation. It is NOT configured to
accept a stove. For year round living or
campsite placement please refer to our
other larger yurts.
